They were formed as the Krautrock scene was dying out in the mid seventies by guitarist Alex Conti ( formerly of Atlantis and Psy Free, nowadays with Rockship and The Hamburg Blues Band ) and Englishmen, vocalist James Hopkins-Harrison and terribly underrated keyboard player Geoff Peacey. It seems as if their "lightweight" brand of " Americanized " pop/rock won them few friends amongst the diehard Krautrock fans, a sentiment with which we don't agree, and the odd unkind review was spotted in one or two of the respected music newspapers/magazines. A pity, though, because they did record some really good material ( check out their fantastic " Live " album ). They split in the late 80's, having released about nine albums.
Lake - Angel in Disguise, from "Lake 2" in 1978. Lake were a multi-national band formed in Hamburg, Germany in 1973, consisting of members from Scotland, England, Ireland, Germany and Italy. The initial members included vocalist/bassist Ian Cussick, keyboard player Geoff Peacey and trumpet player Bernie Whelan, although by the time the debut album came out in 1976, thel ine-up had changed to Peacey, vocalist James Hopkins-Harrison, guitarist Alex Conti (ex-Atlantis), drummer Dieter Ahrendt, bassist Martin Tiefensee and keyboard player Detlef Petersen. The self-titled debut album, released on CBS Records, sold over 400,000 copies in Germany alone and was supported by a very busy touring schedule, including a 40 concert tour of the US, where the album charted. After their 1977 live album, they returned to the studio for this, our featured album, which was promoted by an appearance on the UK's "Old Grey Whistle Test" and support slots with Bob Dylan and Genesis. They also got the nod as the best rock band in several German music polls. They went on to release a further couple of really good albums before calling it a day in the early eighties, although they did reform for a short while.
