Bunny Brunel's LA Zoo - Led Boots, from "Bunny Brunel's LA Zoo", released in 1998, the first album under this name. For the uninitiated, Bunny Brunel is an exceptionally good American b assist who's been around for a number of years, although he's not known for his abundance of album releases. In the late seventies, he featured with a band called "Sorry". Sorry(!) we can't tell you anything about that particular band as we haven't heard them either, but he did release two very good solo albums in the early eighties. He's also graced the stage with Chick Corea Focus guitarist Jan Akkerman. All of a sudden, out of the blue, comes Bunny Brunel, this time with the likes of keyboard player Brian Auger, guitarists Vivian Campbell (Dio /Riverdogs), Mike Stern (jazz soloist and also once upon a time with the mighty Blood, Sweat and Tears) and session player Ray Gomez, and drummer John Wackerman. The album, released on ToneCentre Records, will thrill anyone into modern jazz/fusion/rock with a bit of a bluesy touch. Interesting to hear how an out and out rock guitarist like Vivian Campbell fits in so well here and this unlikely marriage of similar yet diverse musicians makes this an essential purchase.
